The District 63 Umpires Association, with the support of your local league, is hosting a Rules and Field Mechanics Clinic on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the Montalvo Little League Baseball Complex, 1929-1/2 Johnson Drive in Ventura, CA, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This clinic is open to all interested parties, especially junior umpires (ages 13-18 years old). Snacks and lunches will be provided. You will be taught material used at the Little League Western Region School and the Jim Evans Academy of Professional Umpiring.
Instruction in all aspects of umpiring will be covered by District 63 Umpires, including: uniform and equipment, pre-game routine, plate decorum, starting the game and controlling its pace, what to do between innings, safety items, basic signals (ball, strike, safe, out, fair, foul, time), plate and field mechanics and positioning, live practice behind the plate, drills incorporating proper movements and how to be in the “right” spot to make the call.
Certificates of completion will be awarded at the conclusion of the training.
Your local league, and all its players, staff, and volunteers rely on the availability of umpires to operate its games. It is an important and necessary function of Little League
Baseball to have properly trained umpires present at all games. It is an avocation filled with the reward of service and status as the arbiter of fairness at each and every game played. We acknowledge your commitment to the youth of the community through your participation in this program.
The District 63 Umpire Association, Inc. was created to spearhead efforts of recruitment, training and support of volunteer umpires within the boundaries of California Little League District 63. Our on-going mission is to inspire our adult and junior umpires by arming them with superior training and support so their involvement spans well into the future with a strong sense of community.
Many leagues within our district offer both community service hours. Ask your local league president for more information.
